Upper Merion Boathouse
May 10 – September 6, 2016

#frenchcreekracing

French Creek Racing presents a series of 6 open water swimming races (800 meters each) throughout the summer.

These races are a perfect way to gain open water swim experience before your big triathlons of the season!

Race dates will be: 5/10, 6/7, 6/21, 7/19, 8/9, and 9/6. Each race will be on Tuesday night, 6PM registration / warm up, 7pm start.

Each series racer will receive a goody bag, along with a race cap, and we'll have a post race BBQ Social for all racers! Stay and enjoy some good food, and great friends!

Swimmers should be confident of their ability to swim 800 meters in open water before entering.

We follow USAT's guidelines for use of wetsuits. Anything below 78ºF will be wetsuit legal and above 78º will be non-wetsuit. Anyone who wishes to wear a wetsuit above 78ºF will simply compete as an unofficial racer.

Registration

Registration is closed

The first 100 registrants will be able to sign up for the entire series. After the series is sold out, we will allow up to 50 additional swimmers to register for the individual races. A maximum of 150 entrants will be able to swim at each event.

Pre-registration for the individual races will close at 10am on the Tuesday morning of the race.

Event day registration

Race day registration will be available at 6pm. Race day registration will always be $5 more expensive than pre-registration. Race day registration cost will be $30.

We now accept cash, check, and credit on site for race day registrations! We prefer cash to avoid credit transaction fees.

Refunds

No refunds will be issued. If requested at least 7 days in advance, we will be able to transfer your funds to a different training or race event.

Course

Take a look at the course map here!

Start

We will hold two waves for each series race. Heat 1 will begin at 7pm and will be the "seeded" heat. It should consist of anyone (male or female) who expects to finish in the top 20 overall, contend for the series podium, or finish under 15:00 for 800 meters. Heat 2 will be the "party" heat. It should consist of the less competitive athletes who do not expect to content for the overall standings and who expect to finish around 15:00 or longer for 800 meters. Heat 2 will begin approximately 3 minutes after Heat 1.

Finish

These races will be hand timed. After you finish, you will be given a place holder and finish place/time will be tabulated on-site. Please move away from the finish area and allow other swimmers to finish.

Floating docks are only designed to carry a specific number or people. Please do not stand with too many people on the dock all in the same spot!

Spectators

No spectators will be permitted on the floating dock. There is plenty of space to spectate along the shoreline.

Weather

Inclement weather policy:
All races will be held rain or shine. Two things will cause the race to be postponed: 1) Lightning in the area, and 2) water quality due to stormwater runoff. Generally, we will use www.phillyrivercast.org as a guideline of water quality. Ultimately, we will make a call by 4pm and post it on our Facebook page. Rain dates are always Thursday of the same week. If there is light rain during the event, we will still swim.

Prizes

Awards will be given for the top 3 in the series based on points scored in each race. Award winners must be present at the final race of the season (9/6) to claim their awards.

Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of our events! We need lifeguaurds, kayakers, and stand up paddleboard supports, registration, set up, and breakdown. Please contact Allie at Allison@frenchcreekracing.com to help out!
