2015 Upper Merion Open Water Series

Bridgeport, PA
Upper Merion Boathouse
July 14 – September 8, 2015

French Creek Racing presents a series of 6 open water swimming races (800 meters each) throughout the summer.

Race dates will be: 5/19, 6/9, 6/23, 7/14, 8/4, and 9/8. Each race will be on Tuesday night, 6PM registration / warm up, 7PM start.

Each series racer will receive a goody bag, along with a race cap.

Swimmers should be confident of their ability to swim 800 meters before entering.

These races are a perfect way to gain open water swim experience before your big triathlons of the season!

New this year!
Although we are not a sanctioned event, we will be following USAT's guidelines for wetsuits. Anything below 78F will be wetsuit legal and above 78 will be non-wetsuit. Anyone who wishes to wear a wetsuit above 78F will simply compete as an unofficial racer.

Start

We will hold two waves for each series race. Heat 1 will begin at 7PM and will be the "seeded" heat. It should consist of anyone (male or female) who expects to finish in the top 20 overall, contend for the series podium, or finish under 15:00 for 800 meters. Heat 2 will be the "party" heat. It should consist of the less competitive athletes who do not expect to content for the overall standings and who expect to finish around 15:00 or longer for 800 meters. Heat 2 will begin approximately 3 minutes after Heat 1.

Finish

These races will be hand timed. After you finish, you will be given a place holder and finish place/time will be tabulated on-site. Please move away from the finish area and allow other swimmers to finish.

Floating docks are only designed to carry a specific number or people. Please do not stand with too many people on the dock all in the same spot!

Spectators

No spectators will be permitted on the floating dock. There is plenty of space to spectate along the shoreline.

Weather

Inclement weather policy:
All races will be held rain or shine. Two things will cause the race to be postponed: 1) Lightning in the area, and 2) water quality due to stormwater runoff. Generally, we will use www.phillyrivercast.org as a guideline of water quality. Ultimately, we will make a call by 4pm and post it on our Facebook page. Rain dates are always Thursday of the same week. If there is light rain during the event, we will still swim.

Prizes

Awards will be given for the top 3 in the series based on points scored in each race. Award winners must be present at the final race of the season (9/8) to claim their awards.
